Rider #1: Three years of living on the J line has given me many stories, the most recent being tonight, where we are reduced to the SFPD yelling out the trains that are coming at Montgomery because once again the alleged computer has failed. ( approx 6:30pm) Rider #2: [to Willie Brown] I'm very disappointed in the amount of effort you've put into "fixing" MUNI. You made a huge deal out of the problems with MUNI when you were up for election, and promised to correct them; however, you've failed to allocate funds necessary to give the city decent public transportation - it's as simple as that. In addition your attitude towards the problem is less than diplomatic, it's actually embarrassing to think our Mayor speaks publicly the way you do about MUNIs problems. The public has to rely on MUNI to get to their JOBS. Both employers and employees (ie, everyone in the city) suffers. I've stopped "trying" to take MUNI to work; instead I walk a mile to BART and I get to work according to BARTs schedule, with less stress, and it's quicker than if I would have caught MUNI which is 2 blocks from my home. Something's wrong, don't you think. I was hesitant on voting for you last term, but you seemed like the type of person who could get things done, so I did vote for you. I guess you're priorities changed somewhere along the line. Public transportation is a staple, not a luxury. I, like many other voters, am tired of waiting for our Mayor to realize how important a decent transportation system is. I won't vote for you next time around -- and I'll just continue walking to BART in order to get to work on time. Rider #3: IF MUNI IS UNABLE TO GET SOME OF THE LRV'S INTO THE TUNNEL, THEN I WOULD SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING: 1. MODIFY A COUPLE OF BOEINGS OR BREDAS WITH TROLLEY POLES SO THAT THEY CAN TUN ON THE SURFACE OF MARKET STREET, THIS WAY THEY CAN PROBABLY ADD MORE CAPACITY TO THE F-LINE, WHETHER IT IS FEASIBLE OR NOT I NOT SURE, SINCE THE LRV'S ARE LONGER THAN THE PCC'S ON THE F-LINE. 2. FOR THE TIME BEING MUNI MIGHT CONSIDER TEMPORARILY REINSTATING THE 8-MARKET TROLLEY BUS LINE USING THE ARTICULATED TROLLEY BUSES AS A SUPPLEMENTAL SERVICE TO THE F-LINE AND THE MARKET STREET TUNNEL UNTIL THE BUGS ARE WORKED OUT ON THE NEW SYSTEM. Rider #4: Despite reading in today's paper (9/1/98) that Metro service was improved Monday (8/31/98), that was not my experience for either the morning commute or the evening one. In the morning I did get on a train at Castro Station but it took an hour to get to Powell St. Station. At 5 pm I was warned by people coming out that no trains were running; even the guys passing out the flyers at the turnstiles said not to bother going down to the platform. So I walked toward the Financial District and was thus able to squeeze onto an F car. Another hour for a 15 minute commute!
