Part time drivers hit the streets

October 26th, 2011

Starting today, the SFMTA is using part time drivers to fill routes. Under negotiation under 2010’s Prop. G and Muni’s union, the SFMTA can hire part time drivers even when full time driver positions are available.  The agency can expect to save nearly $900,000 with this move, hiring 25 part timers total. Riders can expect to see additional service for rush hour service on lines such as the 1-California, the 8-Bayshore and the 31-Balboa express.

Cameron Beach Yard to be dedicated tomorrow

October 24th, 2011

On Tuesday, the Geneva Streetcar Yard will be renamed to honor the late Cameron Beach, who died suddenly in March of this year. Mr. Beach was a long-time advocate for better mass transit and particularly for historic streetcar service, and before serving on the SFMTA board was executive diredtor of Sacramento Regional Transit.

We applaud this move by the SFMTA to honor Mr. Beach for his many years of service to transit riders.
