All aboard by any door
Starting July 1, Muni will legalize all door boarding on buses. Thanks to Clipper, all door boarding will be a practical solution and reduce boarding times further. A 1 mph increase in Muni’s operating speed could save the SFMTA $76m a year.
For at least the past 2 years, I have noticed many passengers entering by the rear doors at many stops. So I think the improvement in boarding time will not be that significant.
Can you explain how the any-door policy will make buses drive faster?
Thanks
The driver can ask riders to board via the rear door. Not all Muni riders board via the back door unless instructed to. Previously riders could get a citation for boarding via the back door.
All door boarding allows passengers to board via either door, and by using clipper, pay fare. This also reduces dwell time. Fare inspectors will spot check riders to see if they are in compliance.
